So nice to hear from people. My goodness I never thought I'd say this but, it is too dang quiet. Don't get me wrong, silence is lovely, but it is unnerving. O.K., I'm posting this out there so I don't have to tell the story again. Sorry, konti mahaba.

The car accident was very, very scary, but thankfully everyone walked away alive. My stitches came out a week ago and I for one am glad I don’t have amnesia so I can still speak Tagalog. I am without wheels but have moved into my place in Santa Monica where the bus to UCLA, store and beach are all within walking distance. The weddings were great fun it was so good to see friends and family. I spoke Tagalog every chance I got and during the long drives before the accident, my parents and I had some talagang malalim conversations. As for school--I swear I was ready to walk away and was hoping to get kicked out last May. Pero nayon, I took my lumps and am still enrolled as a graduate student at UCLA and have miraculously retained my fellowship. Thanks for reminding me why I need to finish this and more importantly what I can do once I am done.

I have thought of our past summer experience often and it seems it always creeps into my conversations no matter what the subject. I find myself thinking of many of you individually and I am so grateful that I was able learn from not only our teachers and the communities we interacted with, but also from each of you individually. Between the accident and my troubles at school I was amazed at the reserves of strength that were there to lean on and I attribute that directly to our TOS experience as well as each and every one of you. I am so grateful I’m alive, that things have worked out in my little corner of the world and so I’m just sending this message of love and gratitude to thank you for your support and friendship, to encourage your use of Tagalog, and hope that WHATEVER is going on in your life you’re sharing it with someone—friends, family, tosers. Mega mahals at ingat kayong lahat. Hwag mo hihiya mag tawag, e-mail, chat, text, etc. sa akin, I’m always glad to know what’s up even if its just bitchin’ about work, school, life, love or just bein’ stateside.

Maraming salamat,
Christine

Just a reminder, TOS pictures are on the web at www.NikonNet.com. As you know, most of them are of places and not people. You guys have plenty of those. Care to share?
